Default Filter or pump

I have a large plastic tub which I bought from the garden centre that I am using as a pool for my wd's. At the minute they don't seem to be going near the water as it is standing. I was thinking of adding a pump or a filter to move the water around a little but i'm not sure what to go for. Also with the tub being plastic is it even possible to add a pump/filter and can I get a something that will operate in shallow water.

Thanks.
