Hi all

Well I brought a thermostat from a carboot sale last week , only paid a few quid for it, the chap was clearing out his ex-wifes clutter as he put it , didnt know what it was.

Well it worked for the past 10 days but today it gave up the ghost, changed the fues and checked the wiring, but no joy.

Anyway Ive noticed if I have only a heatmat , then the temp is to high (ie 94f), I was just wondering a temp measure (no pun intended).
Could I use a timer socket to turn the heatmat on and off every 15 mins without damaging the heatpad ?.
So it would be on for 15 , off for 15. I have set one up in a viv that Im getting ready for new tenant and Im getting a temp in the region of 85f give or take a few degrees.

Any comments ??

that should be fine, afterall all a mat stat does is turn the heatmat on and off depending on temperature...

edit.. by fine i mean shouldnt damage the heatmat..

I didnt want to go downstairs and find a smoking viv

But thinking about it , I should of realised thats all a thermostat does , except triggerd by temp not time

You could try lifting the viv off the mat leaving an airspace & that would temporarily regulate the temp until you get one.........
