Default Sorry probably a really stupid question!

Hi

Sorry I am new to all this and am probably being really thick . I set up my first vivarium today in preparation of getting a leopard gecko in a few days. I got a habistat mat thermostat as having read the posts on here everyone recommends using one. I got one of off ebay so it doesn't have any instructions. Please can you tell me how I set it so it regulates the heat mat temp in the vivarium as there are no temps on the dial and I am not sure how it works. The instructions on the habistat website don't really help.
Thank you
Amanda

You will have to pop the mat in, with a thermometer- prefereably digital, turn the stat right up or right down, then adjust it every hour or so (whenever the temp stops fluctuating) until you get the temperature you're after.

The probe should be right on the heatmat/substrate as that's where the leo will be, same with the thermometer.

Trial and error unfortunately... even the ones with temp dials on aren't accurate. Mine was miles out... took me 3 days of adjusting but eventully sorted it out. Good luck!
