Default Wood for lizards

Hi everyone,

Ive recently got some bearded dragons (as i posted in another thread) and went to buy some food from a petshop, but they wanted £30 for a fairly small piece.

I have since got a larger bit for £10, but was wondering - is there a special sort of treatment on the wood that is being used, or could i just get a normal piece out of the garden and put that in a tank?

you could use normal but you must remember what you may bring in with the wood. parasites bacteria etc.heat treat it and it SHOULD be ok. don't use conifers.

If you get freshly cut wood (from you rown garden) you can remove the bark which removes most of the critters and any pollution, and leave it for a couple of weeks to dry out. That should kill most things that wouldn't normally live in a viv anyway. You can put it in a plastic bag with ardap if you want to be really sure of getting rid of any remaining critters.

Just freeze it for a few days, or bake it in the oven for a little while. Preferably both. That will get rid of any critters that are hiding in it!
