Default Habistat Thermostat ??

Hi all, is this the sort of thing I need to control the temp in the viv for my beardie? With the temps rising at the moment it's hard to control the temps in my viv. What happens with this, does the bulb turn off? Is this not a problem for the beardie as it then won't have a basking spot?

OK scrap this, what thermostat would I need to control the temp? A dimming thermostat? Can't decide if it's needed as it's only become a problem with the warmer temps this week, usually it's fine?

This all depends on the heating medium you are using.

For a beardie I would recommend a spot light controlled by a dimming stat

It's a spot light, has been 100w this week but dropped it to 75w today because of the temps (in fact the 100w blew after only a week?)

Nope, as said the temps have been fine until this week, where the hot end has gone over 100 a few days.

It doesnt really matter if the temps have been fine or not. IF the heating medium is not regulated then there is always the possiblilty of temps rising to lethal levels. A stat is a basic requirement of careful reptile keeping. I strongly advise getting one ASAP.

It will also allow you piece of mind about temps and prevent you from having to change the bulbs etc.

you could always try using a dimmer switch from somewhere like B&Q. It'll be a lot cheaper, but will need some playing around with to get the right temps as it simply controls the amount of power to the bulb, not respond to changes in temp within the viv.
