Default UV light length?

I got a viv that has come with a starter and UV light. For the lizards in it the UV % is wrong so I need a new UV light.
I was just wondering if it says anywhere on the starter unit what length bulb can go in? I cant see anywhere.
Its a 4ft viv, with an 18inch UV bulb. There is plenty of extra wire to get a longer bulb but would this be OK?
I cant see why not but want to make sure first.
Thanks.

the starters all have different wattage and each bulb is a different wattage. Say for example you've got a 15 watt starter you wouldn't be able to put a 4ft tube 40watt tube in there.

you can move slightly either way but you could end up blowing blubs with a higher wattage starter than bulb or not enough power to the bulb with a longer tube and lower wattage starter....

have a look on the starter to see what wattage it is and what bulb you can get into it.

UV Lighting for Reptiles: Introduction to UVB Fluorescent Tubes

for a 30watt you can use a 36inch / 3ft. Should have blown the 24 realistically but you know what it's like. Tell us we need a different one for each length tube and we have to buy another when we build a bigger viv.

apparently not from what i was told but thats what Catherine was using so experience seems to say you can get away with it.

I did it for a short time on one of my starters but i was paranoid it was going to set on fire everytime i went out so its not something i would recommend.

I think if you use a 30W starter with a 15W bulb that a surge in the power could blow the bulb.

If you used a 30W bulb in a 15W starter that it wouldn't be working to its full potential.
