Question Homemade Incubator - Stat Probe Position

Hi guys

ok, so I got a good sized poly box with lid on which i will use as my incubator.......I am going to tape the heatmat onto the underside of the lid I think......unless I'm told of a better placment for it.......will ude some wire mesh for the shelf where the tubs/eggs will sit.........

BUT.....

just wondering where the correct position is to put the probe from the mat-stat.......should I feed it through the polybox at the bottom, underneath the mesh shelf..... or should it be placed somewhere else, either directly infront of the mat itself.......or in the middle of the incubator........of yeah will use a digi themometer for temp readings too

cheers

I mounted my heat mat vertically and attached the sensor to the mat. In such a well insulated and confined space I doubt it makes much difference. WHat do others do?

i had my heatmat on the lid and placed the stat probe into the middle of the 3 tubs i had in the incubator.i put the stat probe through a hole in the lid and had it resting ontop of the vermiculite.
got really good hatch rate 28 out of 29.

hope this helps

Hi all,

I would have it on the vermiculite, I would not use an ordinary mat stat I would use a pulse proportional more accurate, mat stats can vary by up to 3 degrees to much variation.
