Default thermo stats

how accurate is say a £40 one one the box it says +/- 1 degree. is this rite or not

Personally I NEVER go solely on the reading on a thermostat. I always use a thermometer to check and tweek my temps

The scale on the thermostat don't mean a thing. You need to use a digital thermometer and even those can vary.

how much would a decent thermometer cost then £100???

I bought some off e-bay for a couple of quid each. I then put all the probes under the same heater and got an average reading from them. Those that gave different reading I just wrote on them + or - the difference. It's not 100% but it's within a degree or 2. What thermostat ie make/model are you using?
