do you use multiple mat stats or is there one that can control multiple heatmats?

eitherway i am in need of heatmat thermostats for a 2stack and this coming week i will have a 5stack viv, ive never used stats before, so any help will be greatly appreciated

cheers

Easy mate - all stats will have a MAX load, from 100watts and more

However many mats you use firstly make sure they are all the same wattage, once you sorted this them basically you can run quite a few mats from 1 stat BUT remember the total wattage of all the mats put together must not exceed the MAX load of the stat

Job sorted

As long as ALL the mats are the same then they will all heat up to the set temp ......forgot to mention you plug all the mats into a six way extension etc then plug the extension into the stat socket, then plug the stat into the wall socket

but heat rises? so the top viv would be cookin and when you have lights underneath???????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????

i think it would work on horizontal stacks but not vertical if you know what i mean

one main problem with heat mats you often hear is that they only heat the surface rather than the ambient temp of the viv so there shouldn't be a problem with the heat rising. You'll no doubt be using thermometers in the vivs so you'll be able to see if the top vivs are hotter.

im gonna have a go then and keep my eye on temps, but i think i will put the probe in the second viv because of the heat rising from the heatbulb in the first viv. what do you think of that???

otherwise ill just use the horizontal method, and have more vivs sideways than up to make it cost effective

i think its possible with mat stats....as the thread title sugests...but not for bulbs......as you shouldnt be using mat stats for bulbs anyway...

heat from a heatmat...usually it would be the surface temp being controlled so it can work with the previously mentioned if all mats are same wattages and all vivs are similarly laid out and housing species with same requirements.
Beyond that though...its a one stat to one heatsource to one viv thing really.

you can get the dual stats with 2 dials and 2 probes which work ok and save a bit of cash.
