Default cites Annex 1 listed question

Can one of the zoo based guys let me know what kind of money and headaches are involved in bringing in a pair of annex I cites listed animals from South America please.

But basically you have to send off for papers from defra, as long as the parents have papers then your ok on the babies front.

Typically speaking you will need to prove that the animal is captive bred to get papers.

This will be for a specific breeding program. Zoos do this regularly, I want to know what the process is. Anyone know who I should be speaking to?

An official in defra I would imagine

Added.. if there are different rules for zoos to private keepers, I would imagine you would surely need a zoo license to qualify for them.

In addition to 'standard' CITES rules, there are also the EU specific ones to contend with - as far as I understand, you will also need to find out which EU Annexe this particular species is in (most likely Annexe A if it is Annexe I CITES, but the EU Annexes have some differences to 'standard' CITES).

Basically, a bit more legislation to trawl through
