We were there beginning of April, and I caught this picture of one of the Jaguars. We saw the two spotteds together, and a melanistic as well from the inside where the ants are.

aye we saw the jaguar.

One point I'd like to raise is this:

someone very very recently used chester zoo as an examle showing why it must be ok to house snake together, chester zoo do it, it must be ok.

Young gun will agree with me when I say the condition of the snakes was far from ideal. The snouted cobras, green mambas etc were kept in pairs, typically each pair had one skinny and one fat snake. In both cases (cobras and mamba) one was well fed and content and one was romaing about and very thin, in both cases up and down the opening point at the back of the viv (ie where people/food come from!)

Can't find the thread in snakes, hence posting this here..

and yes, as young gun point outs there were a good half dozen or so species that were labelled incorrectly, that we could spot, between us we barley knew anything about mammalss etc. Also they seemed to devote a great deal of space over to birds, I think we say virtually every tropical and pretty species of chicken duck and related pultry, which while interesting it did seem that around halfd the space was devoted to birds with the interesting little bits like the coatis, red pandas etc dotted around. Still worth a visit and I'll still probably go again.

I does agree, I does indeed.

That to me though suggests that the snakes aren't seperated for feeding, which if it's true is absurd, don't get me wrong, I'm not 'slating' the zoo but a lot of people hold zoo's up as the holy grail, surely they must be with 7,000 animals in one place all still alive, right?

If it's a time constraint, then house the snakes seperately, another thing I saw was a pair of Yemens together, the male looked happy as anythin, the skinny dark female cowerin in the corner didn't

I'd go again and likely just spend my time oooh'ing and ahhh'ing over those Red Panda's and Coatis, great little things.

Spotted this one though.. which amused me..

anyone that goes... BUY FROSTIES!!!

they have tickets on the side that get you in for free as long as you're accompanied by a full paying adult..

it was only when we got home that we realised there was nothing on there about age restrictions, it just said 'admit one' so we could have gone bogof between the 4 of us
