oh, and seeing as Ann wants to try and add to the slurring going on, i might as well answer her here, instead of on the marmoset thread
incidently ann, your post on this thread "they have definitley been clipped" we will be showing to our client to see how they wish to proceed, not sure if thats libel, slander or deformation of character, no doubt you will be informed your other post, in case you forget what you said... Quote:
no. they don't have to be, is the answer in a nutshell.. moreover.. a short bit of research into this species will tell you the following.. hornbills nest in "holes" which they block up the entrance of. the young only come out once they are fully grown. by this time you CANNOT close ring them, as the foot is fully formed, and the foot bones no longer flexible enough to get the ring on. when they are close ringed as babies, its done before the foot bones have hardened up.. the whole purpose of a close ring being that it cannot come back off over the foot. you can either split ring them, or microchip them (or close ring if you break into the nest of course) but you do not actually NEED to do any of the above for hornbills held in private collections and before someone *** says *** i have never kept them, and why should i talk about them... no i have not kept them.. but the keepers at places like birdworld, not to mention 2-3 other clients we have who have experience of keeping them.. are always on hand to answer questions for us... (ps. thanks dave, and hope the cough clears up soon) one is not born with the sum total of the knowledge we need in our brains... one learns as one matures... well.. some of us do... i would love to see them please. I think alot of jealousy arises on this forum due to what you do, you get to work with and visit some animals that people could and would never be able to own and that creates jealously. Me personally think the animals you have shown are beautiful and i would love to do what you and your partner do, and yes im maybe a wee bit green around the gills but admire you and rory (??? sorry if im wrong) and wouldnt post a smart ass comment because i think this. Just carry on what you do hun and let the jealous nasty comments go straight over you head. xxxxxx
