Meerkats and ferrets are really related at all, different families, Herpestidae and Mustelidae respectively.

Meerkats will do fine outside all year round if given a heated burrow to sleep in.

our guys "chat" to us all the time yes... i call them with a chirruping noise, and they come dashing over and chirup back.. lol.. you can hear the noise i make on the video i posted, you can just about hear them too, but not as loudly as you can hear me

the male vanished underneath a load of caging in the garage the other day, and the female was quick to tell me she could not see him anymore.. stood up on her back legs and hollared at me that her buddy had gone out of sight.. she "told" me where to look for him... "stand up, point with nose, look at me, chirrup.. point with nose.. chirrup.. translated as "oy mum.. he's over there.. look there... under there.. back a bit...*yey* you found him!!!!"

they hiss also, and spit and cackle, when Bear (a dog) first met them they were very open mouthed and hissy to him.. these days he lies by their pen and they chat to him too, lol..

funny sods.. they are very talkative in my experience yes miranda

Our ferrets, chuffies we call them, are very talkative too they will go "Ororororororor" its hard to describe, and will jump around sideways to play. we have 2 albinos, one spayed gill and one hobb, we did have a hobb polecat but the dog let him out and he escaped.
