Hi, I have a two year old beardie and I want to know if I can feed him mealworms?

Our petshop says no, but lots of books I read say its ok in small quants.

His main live food is locusts, I would only be giving him mealies as treats. I understand about the chitin and compaction- I was just wondering what everyones opinion is?
