Default Rate = food. breeding question

I have 3 females for breeding food. If I had 2 males would they kill one another for mating rights or would they just share the wealth as it were? problem is all the places i hav looked locally wnt sell single males.. only pairs....

you cant keep a male with a male even if he has a harem of 20 females LOL

you only keep the male in for a short time anyway as once the female is pregnant and has the babies they need to suckle and you cant have the male in then as he will more than likely eat the babies...

( scotts telling me in my ear here kat .... he used to breed mice )

Male rats will live absolutely fine together - indeed, it would be cruel to keep a single male in most circumstances, which is why you'll find only pairs will be sold to you from most people.

The females need time between litters to raise their babies and gain back condition, so the best thing to do is keep one cage of boys, one cage of girls, and just introduce one or both lads to the girls when they are in heat (easy enough to spot), and then take them back out when they're no longer in heat.

Baby bucks can be introduced to the adults as well once they're around 6-7 weeks old, if you decide to keep on any of the babies. They need to be separated from the girls at five weeks, but that extra couple of weeks maturity is really necessary before they meet their daddy.

Yes, that would be fine

Female rats come into heat on average once every 4/5 days for 12 hours or so - when they're in heat they are very fast and active, and freeze in position while vibrating their ears if you touch them on the flanks. When they come into heat, put the male in the cage with them and leave them for a few hours (or even overnight), then put the males back together again.
