As a general guide.. NONE if it interferes with normal feeding of crix, mealies... BUT i think 3 is ok...
but not every feed, maybe one for every 4 crix or mealies but only say twice a week [if you feed leo daily] basically about a 3rd of feeds. Havin said that as long as you know crix are best, mealies are virtually as good [assuming you gutload your live food, dont need to waxies really though] but can be harder to digest and waxies are fattening then you should eb abel to suss it out ok yourself and keep your leo perfectly content and healthy.

Thank you. Ella used to have crix every other day but for some reason just went off them! I leave mealies in there every day for her (changing them everyday so they are gutloaded) and she has a nice fat belly and tail. She is my first ever reptile so I am still on a learning curve but she is still here after 4 months and growing well so I must be doing something right
. She is a real sweetie and seems to be doing ok on just the mealies though I worry about their nuitritional value compared to crix. I am trying to over come my fear of locusts as I know they are meant to be a good alternative to crix. Amanda ![]() |

Yeh locusts are a bit of a pain with there super abilities to climb up anything [out of the baggy when putting them in grr] but they are good if you can use them yeh.
Im sure your doin a great job yeh. Best of luck. Our first leo ate crix for the first few months now he hardly will... 4 we got recently really only eat mealies and we got a baby albino yesterday who being too small for mealies.. thankfully took crix lol.. So a bit of a mix. I think its true many leos and other lizards can be a right pain and only eat mealies for periods.. nightmare really.

coming upto winter last year, my leo went off crickets altogether, but would still only eat wax worms. I was advised by a few people to feed him as normal for a few more weeks then stop, and not feed him for a period of weeks. This was to simulate the winter and hybernation. After that we put nothing but crickets in and he is eatin crickets to this day. I hope he does not go through the same thing this year as i don't like doing it.
