Default What are these on my roach?

They can be scraped off and seem to twitch... The bug that is covered in them in the pic is quite unresponsive but i've seen them on my other roaches in smaller numbers.

I don't want to feed anything dodgy to my reps

looks like mites to me, dont put them anywhere near ya reps all your reps could end up with it. Not sure hpw you go about cleaning them, ive heard you put a bit of vaseline on them and them rub it off. Where you get the roaches from?? If there from a shop id take em back.

Ah, ok thanks.

When i went to buy my beardie, the breeder gave me a few just on the off chance that they might drop a few babies to start a colony... all the adult are guys though lol

I haven't tried feeding any to my reps yet. I'll try clearing them up... or do you think it's kinda pointless and i should just get rid?

Do they breed on the bugs or will they be in the cardboard and all sorts?

Can i just throw them out or is there some kind of environmental risk?

Yeh he's clear as far as we can tell.

He spotted a small dark bug in his water... ITS A MITE! Some small flakes of moss in his hide... ITS A MITE!

My leo put in an appearance and he went straight into a glass dish so we could fully examine him... every freckle was scratched at and observed for any signs of movement

Thanks for your help, could have been infested!

there are many different species of mites, not all are parasitic, and the ones that are specilise in once type of host. it is quite common to find mites on other invertibrates, and in small numbers they do not usualy cause much problem. they are fairly easy to remove, simply by manualy scraping them off and changing or washing all the cage funiture. bottom line though, they are insect mites, adapted to feed on insect juices, not reptile blood, so will not transfer onto your reptiles. could possably transfer to your crickets though.
