Default Rat traps

My dads friend has a rat infestation and uses rat traps (he thinks poison is too inhumane) are the rats able to be used as feeder food or is it inadvisable? We don't want the babies to starve if their mothers die incase he has put poison down what do we do with them? Do we freeze the babies if we find them? Does poison take long to work, and will it go into the mothers milk?

thanks, i'm a bit panicky, he turned up with a huge stiff rat this morning.

if they are wild rats wear gloves when getting rid of the dead ones, poison is slow as most rely on the rats to spread it to the whole colony..i wouldnt use them as food.

Oh yeah they carry disease. I won't think about touching them then. I guess they'll have to be on a bonfire.

i wouldnt touch any wild rodents etc. its not onl;y disease but they may have been exposed to harmful pesticides etc. also you dont know what they have eaten that could be harmful to your snake.

hope it helps,
lee
