Smile Just out of interest...

I have always loved the look of a salt water set up, and upon seeing all the great pics of set ups it made me curious about them. Its something I can't have right now, but I'd like to learn more for future reference

Would anyone be willing to share perils of wisdom when it comes to setting up a salt water tank (e.g size, water testing, equiptment, maintenance) or even some websites or something which would give me some more info!

Thanks everyone

ultimate reef.com

a larger tank is easier to maintain than a small nano type tank
nothing happens fast with marines other than a disaster
estimate what it will cost you to set up and then double it
dont try to keep everything-it usually fails

Hiya mate,
It depends on what setup you want.
I suppose you will want a coral reef setup?

Try this site for info:
Tropical Fish, Aquarium Care, Fish Tank Setup

And look at this one for there range of livestock: AquaticLifeDirect.co.uk - Tropical Fish, Koi Carp, Discus Fish, Marine Fish - Aquatic Life Direct

Anymore questions, just ask

Phil

I dunno, I just think they look amazing, but yeah probably more like a coral reef type idea! I've wanted one for years but haven't had the time or money to devote to one! I just have a freshwater at the moment but I was thinking maybe in a few years kinda branching out! I know it is expensive, but I was wondering if it is vastly different equipment etc from that of a freshwater. Just keen to learn a wee bit more

Thanks for all your help!

Joanne

Its completely different from fresh water.

You will need skimmers etc...
A bio/chemical filter.
Live rock (coral) works as a realy good water filtration :0

there is alot more, look on the firts link i gave you, it will give you a guid of how to do and what equipment you will need for each type of setup
