I have kept puffers.
I wouldnt get a MBU as a first puff either. I dont think a beginner would want a 2 and a half foot fish.

Personally I would start with fresh water puffers, depending on what size tank you get.
Some puffers can live together in a highly planted tank to keep territories in check and lessen fighting.

I have a three foot tank with 5 f8's in it. (but it was slight brackish)
Easy peasy.
Wouldnt mix them with other fish tho.
Red eye puffers or jade eye puffers look awesome and are proper cool little fishum's to watch!
But I would start small as dental care for larger puff's is a must.
xx

Also... there are alot of puffer fish forums online. Google them and you will have all the info you need.
Also will show you heaps of different pictures and tank set ups so you can pic whats best for you!
