Default New to tropicals and so on....

Anyway, a few of the people on here may already know. I've decided that i shall be a fish person too! Basically, before i got my reptiles a couple years ago, i was tossing between getting reptiles or fish, and obviously as you can see, reptiles won that battle.

I was remembering my nans husbands aquariums he used to have, and then saw a few others recently, so decided i would start looking into getting myself some tropical fish.

First step..... Look for an aquarium, Only something small, for my room. Looked about and couldnt find much, so decided to go to my nans and ask her husband. He had one little aquarium left, the others he sold up (guessing my nan persuaded him out of keeping fish) and the aquarium was only there because he was letting his fish live out their lives, sadly the last one died last week (talk about timing eh). He said i could have it so long as i put £10 towards the charity who deal with my brothers disability. So i thought, sweet! Got the equipment and aquarium all in my possession.

Think it's called Aqua one 620? it can hold about 90L. Perfect for my room, to fit ontop of my 2 ft viv.

Next, look into the fish. Have got a list at home of the number of fish, hoping they will all fit, but time will tell. Will put the list of them in here when i get home (At uni atm)

Now just looking for more information really..

For the water of my aquarium, do i just use tap water? Do i boil it all first? so as to help cleanse it or ?

I know i have to cycle out the water, have read the sticky up above.
And slowly i will add each species of fish, say one species per week?

I will probably keep renewing this thread as i have other questions of course.

Just use tap water, but make sure it is the right temperture. Add a bit of dechlorinator if you wish, and away you go.

I'd do a species every other week, let things settle slowly.
I'd also rethink putting it on top of a viv - never underestimate the weight of water, the thing will weigh a ton when full!

Agree with the weight thing, you never told me of that plan Greg
Not that I know a great deal because it's all new to me but I'll keep you updated on how mine is going (even if you don't want to know )

8.2 lbs per gallon minus the tank and gravel. that adds up fast!

so about 10 lbs per gallon.

Would this be too many in such a tank?

5 x Neon Tetra
5 x Black Neon Tetra
5 x Green Neon Tetra
5 x Zebra Danio
5 x Pearl Danio
2 x Sucker Mouth Catfish
4 x Cherry Fire Shrimp
2 x Female Siamese Fighter
1 x male siamese fighter
2 x glass catfish

All are below the 90 L requirements, but obviously could end up crowded?
