Default Tropical fish problem. . .

I have had 2 fish die in two days. . .
One is now on it's side! I don't know what has gone wrong! I have not added any fish for about 2 months now! I have asked at my aquatic shop and they told me to do 2 or 3 water changes over a period of a week! But they are still dropping like flys!
My temp is fine and my filter has been cleaned!
What could be wrong?

Have you checked your nitrite, nitrate and ammonia levels? how clean did you clean your filter because you can change it too much.

If you dont have a test kit, take some to your LFS and they should test it for you (mine charges 50p)

If the levels are up you can put in a bacteria suppliment to speed up the process.

good luck

Did you get all the fish from the same place, at the same time?? They might have an infection you cant see from the outside.

now i have a tropical tank but don't know much about fish.. if you do 2 or 3 water changes in the space of a week aren't you going to take out too much of the 'cycled' water?

i don't do the water changes as often as they recommend but i haven't lost that many fish.

No meko, usually when an infection or toxins build up in the water its best to do little water chages very frequently to try to keep the levels as low as possible so the filter can do the rest.

They said that my PH is really low and they have never seen it that bad! They told me i haven't been doing my water changes when i actually have!
I have had no toruble with them until now! They also told me i am lucky to have any fish left and was quite arsey with me! Last time i got my water tested, everything was fine and that was a few months ago before i added two new fish!
They told me to do 10% water changes everyday for the next 6 to 7 days! I really don't want to loose anymore, but i have lost a swordtail and a platy today!
