Default pros and cons

what are the pros and cons of using an under gravel filter?

and why are internal filters better?

oh and on topic, for our african tank we use external filter as its a big ol' tank! under gravel filters arent good if your fish dig, like africans do as they may get stuck in filter, mess up the system with their sand moving antics etc

undergravel filters clog very easily and the only substrate you can use is gravel. They are a nuisance to clean, and just generally are crappier then internals. They are a very old-fashioned way of filtering a tank.

Internal filters are easier to use, more efficient and just nicer IMO.
