Default tropical advice

thinking about setting up a tropical fish tank, this will be my first one. ive previously only had goldfish. i would like to know what i need, and what type of fish would be good starters. thanks

I would say get the biggest tank you can afford at first, in time/space/money. At least a 2*1*1ft.

Then, you fill it with gravel, dechlorinated tap water, decorations, add an internal filter and a heater, and a light, and follow esfa's thread on fishless cycling.

well, im in leeds at the weekend so may get the stuff from there. ill do a price up, then ill ask my nan to see how much she can get me it all for or even ask if she can take me through to the shop where her mate works as my nan can get discount.
so please lay me down a list mate, and i mean complete list

Cool, sounds like a plan

erm... a list...

tank, internal or external filter, heater, dechlorinator liquid for water, condensation tray, lid, flurescent light, light starter, possibly aerator, gravel/sand, decorations, plants maybe, or fake plants... erm.... think thats about it

Aerator = a bubble maker thingy...

Condensation tray = goes on the rim of the glass of the tank, to stop the water evaporation getting to the lights in the lid VERY cheap
