Default new tank step 1 =]

well got my filter a fluval plus 2, gravel and a skull with air stoneits all cycling atm. just need a heater.i want to keep red tiger oscars and silver sharks and will be looking into how to care for them. but can they be kept together?

ok just done some reading on those fish and it seems they are no good for beginners.

what can i keep in a 18 gallon tank for life? be it tropical of fresh water. thanks

guppies, platys, zebra danios, dwarf shrimp, amano shrimp, african dwarf frogs, otos, bristlenose plecs....loads.

its best to go to your local fish shop, see what fish you like, and come back and google to see if they will fit in your tank.

iv gota get my head round all this tank cycling first =s is it worth having my filter in the water and on atm as i havnt added amonia etc in yet and wont be for a while

yeah you might as well keep it on, or the water might go stagnant. Or you could just put a prawn or something similar in there and that'll kick start the cycle by breaking down and releasing ammonia.

i dont have a heater in there just yet though will be getting one at the week end. so running bog standard water through the filter wont bugger up bactieria growth later on? iv also got a polyester filter pad in there to take out the gravel dust.

where can i get amonia?
