aslong as water quality is good then you can leave it for a couple of weeks but only change 20 to 30% at any one time every couple of weeks is fine as long as not over stocked

same as above, lets take the example of it being a 2x1x1 and freshwater with neons etc... a community setup, if its this, with ots of plants, you will need a water change every two weeks or so, just to keep the ammonia levels down as a community will usually be heavily stocked, creating lots of ammonia, HTH,John

Shouldnt be any ammonia in a cycled tank, water changes are to dilute nitrates.

Please dont take this personally, but on another thread you are offering advice to other fishkeepers with your experience and yet have little understanding of the nitrogen cycle. The wrong advice could be very detrimental with aquariums.Im really not having a go,and really dont want the arguements that often start on the forum, just worried about beginners tanks.I apologise sincerely if it was a typing error, just be careful! Peace.

water change once aweek is far two long,i change my water twice aweek on some of my tanks.i would do a min of once on any tank,i do 20% in the week and a 40% at the weekend.if you keep cichlids then i would do a water change twice aweek.there are many other fish i would do a water change twice aweek put to many to name.

plus people seem to think you have to give fish loads of food.dont worry if you dont feed them for a day or two.it does them more good than harm.plus this will help to maintain your water for longer.

Sooooo vague. Completely depends on the actual aquarium, the fish in it and things. Plenty of fish will not be happy about being left a day or two, depending on what the tank is set up like. And plenty of tanks can go to once weekly or fortnightly water changes... just monitor the 3 nitrogen values and you can decide from there...
