shoulnt burn to much power but tbh there not the best anyway as the uv comes after the filter and if i remember this caused green algae in the water to clump and clog the fountain nozzles(all due to the fact that the sponges are in the wrong place)..

Oh right, thanks. So what would you recommend in the combined pump/filter ?

I have a small pond which is quite overgrown and which frogs spawn in every year, but it is so overgrown now it needs clearing completely and a fresh start. Just thought some common goldfish would be nice but don't want to spend a lot of money. The Hozelock sounded ideal, all in one, just submerge it and one cable. A nighbour keeps koi but it is his passion and the equipment has cost an arm and a leg.

As already stated your better with seperate's,you could always go for the lv range of hozlelock pumps (lv low voltage)homebase were selling them off ,

then get the filter box with uv which will only use the electric for the uv,

far far better and also as i found any stray eggs from fish or frogs whatever, will collect on the filter sponges and can be saved and hatched

Thanks. Don't want to get into all the expense of seperate filters, burying them, hoses etc. It's quite expensive isn't it ? Just thought it would suffice for a few goldfish. Since posting my question, I've read some favourable reviews for the combined pump/filter but not on here. As I'm not experienced in keeping fish in a pond, I'm sure you guys are right.

How much would the whole lot cost- LV pump, uv filter etc ? Pond is approx 6 ft 6 inches x 6ft 6 inches and 2 ft deep.
