The pond had goldfish in it years ago, when we we bought the house. We just used to put a kids football on the surface for when it froze, no probs with the fish, they came through fine, but a couple of years later, a heron got the lot

It may be ok possibly depending on all the circumstances, like location and things. I think you need the water at the bottom of the pond at nearer 4C ish... but dont quote me on it.

Hmm.. is lined with anything? Concrete makes the water insanely alkaline when new... could be ok if its old though.

hmm.. i'll have a quick google on pond-heaters.

yeah, they dont seem too expensive, and are easy to use...
