so you're keeping malawi cichlids and amercian cichlids in the same tank, plus community fish. This isn't what i'd call the greatest idea in the world. Whatever way you claim to say it works, it doesn't. Some of the fish will not be in suitable water chemistries.

sorry but this is the biggest problem with fishkeeping these days. people buying fish purely because they like how they look, with no regard for the fish's well being.

bloody hell, that tank is an accident waiting to hpen, either with water chemistry or your cichlids scrapping and killing each other

Mike515 knows his stuff, i first found it annoying evryone telling me i cant have these fish with those fish, but now i actually tell people you cant have those with these lol. i had some cichlids with community fish, one ruby crown, 2 severums, keyhole, and rams, think that was it, the ruby crown terarised SP my tank, exept he didnt chase the big sharks, or guramis, the ram killed each other, the keyhole was ok, but died in my malawi tank, the severums were not as bad, but did bully smaller fish, oh yeh, and i still have my krib, sorry mike, but i think my krib actualy chases the malawis, and he is looking very colourful and healthy .MIKE515:, one of my malawis is getting kinda bullied, its black, TBH quite ugly face, with slight white stripes, i have 2-3 of them but the biggest is the one that gets picked on, and is scared, so he hides behind filter, so put him in breeding net, and he is fine, gave he loads of food, krill, blood worm, and there is some flakes still floating, to try get him bigger, and healthy.Anything else i can do?

well cut down on krill and bloodworm. Malawi's can't process lots of protein so don't feed so much meat for a start.

With malawi's you will find that you have to thin out populations as the fish grow. This means taking out fish that can't hold their own. sorry but its the only way without getting a bigger tank

ok,
I never give them krill. But acasionaly blood worm, they do LOVE it, and its all gone in seconds, the zebras swallow a whole little cube thingy of it!

@Maddad: I agree with the other posters that your eclectic taste in fish might be putting them in harms way. How are your fish behaving towards one another and what is there general health like? What is your water like?

@Snakelover: I tend to think of malawi cichlids as being like the mob. Theres a distinct heirachy and your unfortunate fish is near the bottom of the pile. Removing it will just result in another poor guy getting the agro. Like Mike says, you may need to thin down your stock to those who can hold their own. Another method I have used with territorial cichlids is to net all of them out, rearrange the tanks decor, and then re-introduce them. This way a new pecking order is established.

yeah but it's not practical to re-arrange the tank every few weeks. And usually the first hierarchy will reform and the bottom fish will get knocked about again

id like to comment on your silver shark. A "good" five inches? Do you know how big these are supposed to grow? And yet, they are communal fish doing alot better in shoals of around 6 or more? 5 inches is nothing. I don't think a 6x2x2 would be too good for a good shoal of silver sharks. Juts my 2pence
