Question Some Advice Please...

My boyfriend currently has a 2.5ft tropical tank. It currently houses 2 baby clown loaches, 2 scissor tails, 3 or so lemon tetra's and 6" plec and an albino shark (soon to be rehomed due to attacking my froglets) and 2 xenopus laevis (before you shout they are only in there as they are babies and will be moved as soon as they are big enough that I feel they will eat the tetra's!).

I happen to know nothing about fish, and would like to know if this is an ok mix or if there are some things I need to rehouse etc, and what other fishies could I put in there....

Oh we also have a fish that looks a bit like a silver dollar but a pale pinkish clour, I think some sort of tetra, he's a bit nippy so we can't have anything with floaty fins like guppies

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated

Kate

the tetras should be kept in shoals of at least 5, the plec and albino shark will get a lot bigger, and the clown loaches can get to a decent size, so it really isn't an ideal mix

The shark is goin at the weekend. The plec is about 3 years old now so when will he be fully grown?

The clowns can be rehomed as I have a friend with a huge tank.

I'm going home this weekend, so if I get 5 more lemon tetras I'm goin in the right direction? Do the scissor tails need to be in a bigger group?

Thanks again

do you have a latin name for the scissor tails, as off the top of my head I can think of 4-5 different fish with that name, yes the tetras will be really happy in a larger group, with lots of plants and maybe a dark coloured gravel, you could probably get 2 more lemon tetras, and 10 cardinal tetras and 4-5 corydoras, that would be a very good start

I've had a look on the net and they look like some kind of Rasbora sp., they're silver with a black stripe on their tail and quite slender.

We already have dark gravel and lots of plants and also a cave thing which the plec has claimed as his own. Are there any other loach species that would be suitable?

Thanks

a bristle nose catfish would be fine in your tank, and love the cave, can't think of any loaches off the top of my head htough

I love tetras, I have glowlights and black neons in my tank, I wouldn't mind setting up a 400 litre tank with a shoal of 30 rummy nose and 15 cardinals, lol
