IME those algae magnets are rubbish plus you run the risk of scratching the glass if any bits of sand/gravel get trapped underneath. If you only have fake plants, cut back on the lighting and/or get curtains/blinds for the windows. I know you're fed up of scrubbing but elbow grease really is the only way to get rid of it, unless your tank has room for Otos and/or loaches.

what type of algae do you have, i have a small amount of spot algae and nothing except a hard sponge and elbow grease gets rid.
Also what are you nitrate levels like sometimes excess nutrients can cause algae blooms also have you tried having fast growing plants, they will absorb acertain amount of this.
