Question marine prices,time etc?

We are thinking of getting a marine setup in the near future...
looking for a 3ft`ish tank....

I know its not cheap to do but roughly how much do you think it will cost?

with rock,coral,eneminees etc and fish...i want a star fish,maybe sea horse,clown fish,lobster thingy etc

as you can see i have no clue on them....

also never kept tropical...kept pirannah though.

i dont want tropical, not my thing.

from buying the tank etc...how long till i can put fish in?
(this maybe my decision maker as im very impatient!)

if you're impatient you might wanna avoid marines. It's not hard to do but it's nt a case of buying the stuff and add water and fish. It's much more involved

Ive been looking at a 2 foot cube in the local aquatics shop.It up for £700 but has the filters atc already in it.Just add water live rock coral and fish.I know its not cheap but im really starting to like the idea of keep marines.

I was told that i would need to wait at least 2-3 months before putting in fish but i could start adding live rock and coral afer 4-6 weeks as long as the water levels were ok.

you can add coral and live rock within a week. As long as you use mature water (most shops sell it) and the rock is cured.

Fish can be added within 2 weeks.

invest in a wet/dry trickle and a protein skimmer and try to go big as you can. really think about lighting stratagey for most inverts. if you see a chiller laying around, grab it lol! oh, and get to love water changes. and a U.V. sterilizer and r/o unit from santa. i got out of it after a few years trying to keep the tanks cool enough. chillers are $$$. it's fun though, but you can't wing it. know water chemistry inside and out.

try to get the biggest tank possable and a sump would be really a great buy as it adds to the water volume, basically if you want corals you really need halides, or lots of t5 as a minimum, lighting for fish only tanks can be as simple or advanced as you like.
skimmers are a neded thing imo, but some people say you dont have to use one and a few people dont and say there tanks are better without one.
get the biggest filter you can, it bettter to over filter a tank then under filter it.
U.V. sterolizer are really usefull, they kept the white spot down in my tank to a minimum.
use r.o water, you can buy this from an aquarium or i had my own r.o. unit they are well worth the money.
other then that just keep up with water changes weekley, always buy the most expensive stuff you can afford. its better to buy something that will last you, then buy some cheap crap which will brake in a few weeks. (personal expearience)
once it is all set up, you can put live rock in a few days after the initial set u, then i would say get some damsles, clowns, something hardy, then get your clean up crew( crabs, snbails, shrimps etc), then after it has been up for a minimum of a month you can add some of the more expensive fish.
then basically the tanks will look after its self.
hope this helps and good luck with it.
if you need any more info jjust pm, i will be glad to help.
cheers.
jack.

glovers (fenton) have a small marine tank with filters etc built in it's about 2ft square , they have one on show with coral & fish & it looks quite good for the size.

Laura, the initial cost of setup is what will save you time and money in the long run..go for the best you really can afford on stuff like the sumps, protein skimmers etc.
you mentioned corals and lobsters in the same sentance...cant really mx and match with marine, you'd have toppled corals every moning..
James
my four foter cot me just under a grand in the end (first 4months) after buying all the LS/LR, corals, lights for the corals etc..
