Question Snails?

Can anyone recommend something to get rid of snails in my tank? I have a community tank and my guppies are pregnant so i dont want to add anything in case it maybe harms them in any way.

Tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as my tank it starting to look rather grotty!

Thanks

the best thing to do is after about an hour or two after the light is out turn it on, they will be all over the glass, grab the little critters as fast as you can coz they will start dropping off the glass and going under the gravel again. I did it 3 nights in a row once and got more than 150 snails.
I dont have the problem now as I have Clown loaches.

Another trick i was told which never worked for me is to put to small plates or saucers on the bottom, submerging the lower one in the gravel and place some fish food on the plate (preferably pellets, its easier lol) then put the other over the top, leaving a gap for the snails to get in then they will stay on the plate so you can take them out in the morning. Icouldnt get it to work!!!

I read somewhere that you can leave a lettuce leaf floating overnight. Then just make sure you get it before the light comes on it the morning, and it should be covered in snails.

all the treatments dont actually kill the snails so as the first post said go back after the light has been turned off and get your net! simply wipes the glass with it. ull have to keep doing it for a few nights. snails are allright if they are kept under control

Try Botias, shouldnt harm your guppies but eat small snails. Good excuse for new fish, biological control of snails.

Clowns can get 12" plus but I have had one for 3 years and its still only about 4" max, I have never seen one (except the interenet) the is more than 6".
But yeah there are smaller botia's out there, Pakistan Loach, zebra loach or polkadot loaches are good lookers, avoid Blue Botias though they are non community but do look good

put some cucumber and letuce in your tank overnight, turn the lights on and they will be covered in snails. take the cumcumber out, and do it the same night after night.

I wouldnt suggest getting any fish to clear it up, most botias like to be in groups of 6+ and are usually expensive. Cucumber is much cheaper.

clown loaches will grow to 12"+ over a very long period of time. They can live for 25 years!!

I have some in my large tank and they keep the snails at bay.
I've had them for a few years now and they're still only about 5"ish.
