Default Technical question???

Does anyone know if my condensation tray will reduce or stop the uv light from my bulb getting to the plants or does that not matter and I am barking up the wrong tree???

I have looked everywhere on the net and cant find anything relevant.

I did wonder as reptiles cant get uv from the sun through windows.

I just dont know if letting my wooden lid get damp for the sake of a bit extra uv is worth it or not?

Yes, a glass tray will prevent UV getting through, but a plastic condensation tray (I have heard on several occassions) does not stop the UV, and so is fine. I would replace it every few months or so though, as they tend to discolour (go white), and this will reduce the amount of light (generally) getting through.

If I can be bothered I might see if I can actually back up what I am saying with the all-mighty google.

EDIT: here is some proof for you... curtosy of google:

"Most clear plastics transmit UV if they are chemically pure"

"Clear poly-styrene plastic is chemically simple, just C's and H's (Carbon and Hydrogen), and no big electron clouds. So it transmits UV better."

I believe the trays are made of polystyrene.
From this website:
UV Penetration and Plastic

Hope that helps.
