if i am starting new cultures i dust the flies and (any kind of vitamin dusting powder will do) shake them in a sieve.....the mites fall through the sieve and thats a good way to prevent them being crossed over from one culture to another...also if you are going to start to culture them put paper down where your culture vials are and spray it with mite spray (same stuff are u use on your reps) this should kill any mites traveling from one culture to another and apart from that be vigilant thats about it.........there is nothing wrong with using a culture that has mites in to feed from but its when you are trying to culture flies the problems arise......the amount of flies you are going to get is going to be reduced in some way

there are hundreds if not thousands of species of mites some compete for food with the flies and some attack the fly directly so they will reduce your fly production in one way or another

hope this helps

Alan

no my kits don't include the mite spray
but all my cultures i sell have been kept this way

i was thinking doing a kit with the mite spray in it.....but it would work out to expensive
when i added the cost of the spray in

but if your looking just to buy cultures then i do sell them seperate as well a

well anything is better than the shite im getting now. just been to check on the flys and their are thousands of tiny brown and white mites and the flys have decreased loads.

so the kits at the top are for you to make up yourself as you would ?

yep the kits are for you to start culturing your own flies and as i said just get some mite spray and spray some paper with it and put it under your cultures that should help stop the mites in your new cultures
