Now bare with me here and don't suddenly decide i want a free for all section!

There seems to be an increasing number or topics being locked where somebody has accused somebody of something and an argument has broken out and other people have chipped their beaks in. Once the person accused of something posts the thread will often get locked as both sides of the argument has been put forward BUT it still leaves one person lying and one telling the truth.... or both lying!

Once the second person has commented and its locked the first person can't reply if it's been locked.

Now i'm not sure if the forum software can do this but is it possible to have a hidden section to move the arguments to instead of locking them. I'm pretty sure Livefood had something like that but don't think you could reply in there.
Once it's been moved the link is left in the original forum with the 'moved' link and the only people who can access that particular topic are the ones who have been involved in it. That would also leave the mods the ability to delete posts that weren't directly involved effectively removing peoples access to that topic.

Jut think it might enable people to settle their differences on the topic and for the truth to actually come out instead of 2 different sides of the story followed by a padlock.

oooooooo interesting idea. It may get out of hand but it could also sort the problems out once and for all instead of lots of bickering threads on the same thing with people chipping in when it is not thier business

Good idea.... but i'm guessin with all the ing happening latley on ere that the private forum you suggest will be busier than this open forum thus taking the object of this forum away lol

lol, maybe but there wouldn't be as many people answering on the threads as all the rubber neckers and ambulance chasers wouldn't have access unless involved.

People need to learn to resolve their own differences. People can comunicate via PM/Email, and if they get together and decide they need some resolution can always organise an MSN conversation etc.

If people could be adult and mature about discussing their differences there would be no need for such a thing

And although a thread is locked - people can get their resolution in private already if they choose to make the effort to do so.

The one thing about that though that i always find is that its just those 2 that have resolved their differences and other people don't now what's what.
If person A accuses person B of something and then person B denies it and says this that and the other. Who do you trust and who would you buy from and sell to.

So, with your idea, how would you know what's been resolved if the only people who have access to it are those that are involved?

all the arguments give the rest of us some entertainment! I agree theres no need for others to chip in their 2 cents most of the time, but 2 people arguing that their way is best sometimes gives me a good ol giggle

c'mon people, STOP ARGUING!!! If you've nothing constructive to say, then don't say it - thats a better solution

arguments often involve more than 2 people though

and athravan, you said something about resolving it in PM's, i tried that with one argument and nearly got an infraction for it

edit: i think itm would be a great idea, would certainly save people from infractions
