Question Younger users

Sorry if this has been covered before but.............................

I was wondering if there is (or perhaps should be) a way of telling when a member is younger (particularly under 16)?

I ask this because I have recently noticed a few threads where some people have been rather harsh on a user and have caused upset. I realise in an ideal world this wouldn't happen, whatever some-ones age, but I do think that it may make some people stop and think if they knew they were talking to someone say in their early teens or younger.

In this day and age I realise that people don't wish to be "labelled" as such but I think most people on here would word a post differently to a twelve year old than a 30 year old.

What do people think?

agreed, good idea, but. as you said, some people won't want to be labeled as 'under age' (especially on a forum on the internet)

i think its a good idea, i know this as i have personal experience, but i think people who are low enough to say what they said to me in this occasion, are low enough to say anything to anybody, some people just arent worth speaking to at all!

Honestly, dont think it's down to people's age how you speak to them.
I speak to one young man on here who is polite and is well spoken, has a lot of respect for people and I have respect for him.. then there are snotty little kids who dont take advice and think they know best.
If there was a 30 year old not looking after an animal properly and not taking advice, I wouldn't speak to them any different than I would to a teenager.

i can't tell who's male, female, young or old most of the time. then people get bent when you get things wrong.... people should state their sex and age in their profile... what are they hiding? some screen names sound female but a guy uses it and some like a male but it's a female... sex and age should be a required field to avoid confusion... i am much more patient with a 13 year old than i am a 50 year old...

I agree with brat.
The forums all about helping right? So people who dont accept advice and dont speak to other people respectfully deserve to be spoken to like it aswell, regardless of age!

Although like ive said many times before it is very hard to get emotion across on a forum like this so this can cause many needless arguments!

true but i expect more from a 50 year old than a child. you need to be careful what you say to a 13 year old.

I agree totally Habu. I do not understand why people can't provide basic details so you know if you are "talking" to, a male, female, child or adult.

Also, as you said, it is easier to be patient with a 13 year old than a 50 year old.

Brat, having seen some of your posts, I would expect no other response from you.

However it isn't so much about telling someone they are or are not in your opinion looking after an animal. More how you relate to people of differen ages. I remember Faith and Diablo reminding people time and time again on a thread about how they were talking to KNZ who is their daughter and is 8. It isn't what you are saying but how you say it imo

I don't mean people who are being rude or disrespectful. I mean how you would explain the same thing may differ between a ten year old and a 40 year old as they have different understanding of things
