Red face Pick up Taxi's section?

Been seeing loads of people recently posting in different sections that they are going to pick something up somewhere in the country and are willing to do it for others. Do you think we should have a section for this so people know where to look to sort out delivery / transport from round the country from other members?

I think that some people may take offence - Such as Gremlin Rides, Pet Wheels etc.

But they would be able to post in there too and then people would easily be able to find them and know where they are going, ive seen a few threads where people have been asking for info on where to find reptile taxi etc but if there was a section then everyone would know whre to go.

Plus people are already posting this stuff on all the classifieds sections saying they are going somewhere or posting wanted ads for people going places, whereas reptile taxi etc do not so this would make it fair.

Anyway its just an idea

But people *cough* Tick *cough*, that don't have licences from defra would be illegaly advertising themselves - not the best plan is it? I think it also highly unlikely that someone would go to defra and and get a licence for a one off journey!

the thing is most people dont realise this and theres so many people going on about starting up their own taxi service to make a quick buck cos they've seen long standing ones like the reptile taxi and gremlin rides, and like you say they might not be registered but people will assume that they are if they have a business name.

The thing is these people who are not defra registered are already advertising on the forum to deliver on one off trips so maybe this needs to be stopped, if its illegal then its illegal whether its in its own section or in any section.

Plus hopefully if anyone reads this thread they will realise that their reptiles may be getting illegally transported and might do some checking or choose a different option like a proper registered service.

The license is free and a 5-10 minute form to fill in, I would recommend anyone who transports any reptiles take the 5 mins to get it just to cover themselves

The license is only necessary if you are transporting animal commercially. If you begin to take a fee for transporting animals, you could be called a commercial courier. If you are just covering petrol costs, this is not really commercial - you're not profiting. If you're charging extra, and making a profit for your time, DEFRA could argue a case that you are commercially transporting animals. But DEFRA or the RSPCA do not have the authority to pull you over and inspect your vehicle, they would have to have the police with them. I have travelled over 20k miles in our car in the last year!! and only ever been asked for the license when travelling across the border... back from the EU into the UK by british customs officials.

Unfortunately a few people on the forums seem to be jumping on everyone and screaming about this license at the moment, but if in doubt as to whether you need it, either apply for it anyway, or speak to DEFRA, should just be a quick phone call. If you're not commercial, you don't need it.

Here is the Welfare in Transit section, Defra, UK - Animal health and welfare - Animal welfare - During transport - Publications and guidance

Click on transporter documentation for license applications.
