under 18 section??

hey, i have just been looking at a thread in lizards about how some of the teenagers feel a bit " talked down to" and undervalued. would it be practical to have a seperate under 18 section or is that just asking for trouble?? obviously gotta be carefull but the younger members often have to start threads aimed specifically aimed at teens in order to feel like valid members of the group.

I think this is a great idea, i do think possibly though it might be a bit scarce of users in case younger people feel they want to ask their question to someone older. But it could work!

It might have to be carefully monitored though; just like the 18+ section! lol

I think its silly as a lot of younger members have very little knowledge and need the 'elders' to steer them in the right direction

I think it'd be more of an off topic section like our 18+ not a knowledge based thing.

To be honest I think that this is a forum that is targetted towards reptile advice of all ages. The 18+ section is there for off topic chat, so if there was ever to be a "Teens" section, I think it would only be suitable in off topic chat. The last thing most teens want to be is segregated and made to feel different or inferior by needing to ask reptile advice in a special kids section.

I hope that anyone asking for advice in a clear and concise manner gets treated the same whether 12 or 50. The problem often occurs when people use a more casual approach to the english language, such as text speak or masses of abbreviations - those people often get much less of a mature response.... but again, it doesn't matter how old they are, if you're 50 and use text speech you'll probably be as well received as a 15 year old.

i think an off topic area would be good for the younger ones. alot of the threads started by the teens end up in a more informal discussion about typical teen stuff. its difficult being a teenager in alot of respects so an area where they can moan about parents and compare notes on teenage life seems fair. us grown ups have our own section, and there is a gay/bi thread too. thats providing it had proper supervision from moderators etc

not being funny or nothin, but its all about experience. if i need to no something then id prefer years of experience. like i said im not being funnyto the under 18s cause there are under 18s who have got a lot ov experience but i do no that "being talked down to " its not very nice but theresalways someone who knows that little bit more and 9/10 its some one 18+

hi guys i am under 18 myslef and i think it would be a good idea but most of the time we need information off the older generation but if ther was an under 18 i would deffinatly join

Never claim "kids" have less knowledge. Given the motivation a kid will give you more information on the subject a lot more concisely than any "expert".
