i think it makes more sence just to trust people to vote for the pics they genuinely feel are the best that week, will take less work for the mods to manage to as opposed to grouping everything?

Yes it is, but you have to draw the line somewhere. Besides send me a picture with a tampered with EXIF and I'll tell you when it was actually taken
