RFUK Ad Blocks

Well, im sure someone will post about this... so I may as well go first.

I have been toying with a way to offer on-topic advertisements on the site in the most non-offensive way. I dont like 'in your face' ads flashing and god knows what... and I can only just tolerate google ads. Recently, the google ads have become less targeted towards this sites niche... im seeing a lot of dodgy pet meds and stuff like that.

I want to trial the ad blocks on the home page, they fit with the sites design and I hope will be a non offensive way of offering advertising to reptile and exotic pet business in the UK that will not interfere with people viewing pleasure.... but will also offer ads that people will WANT to know about! this is important to me.

If it doesnt work fair enough.... one thing is for sure I need to pay for this sites 3,000,000+ per month page views im sorry but advertising one way or another is inevitable, im just trying to make it as painless as possible.

I will be when/if i ever get my project running (will have to wait until after next weekend for it to resume)

Have you considered setting up a donation page? Or maybe some sort of "premium" member? Just a thought as I know none of these are ideal.

Donations I dont like, that is nothing for nothing... at least advertising, if done correctly.... the advertiser gets something and so does the person viewing the ad (relevant ad use full ads).

Premium membership I have considered and worked through the options.... with this I would want the premium member to really get their moneys worth, ie image uploading, email address, increased storage limits (ie PMs etc), and other benefits that really make it worth while.... I wouldnt want to offer it otherwise. I havnt found a way of doing this the way I would like to yet, obviously if I did... premium members would also see no advertisements! lol
