Default member map or area search facility

Hi, not sure if this has been asked or posted before, so apologies if it has.

Is it possible, (if there isnt already) to either have a map of whereabouts members are OR a search facility whereby you can search for members nearby to you)

For example when you are browsing the classifieds, and see a thread with something you might like, its so dissappointing to find out its miles away, or for those bad at geography (like me ) when you see a town name you can see if its within a reasonable distance to be worth sending a PM.

Hope you get what I mean, i fear transfering my thoughts to the screen may have come out a bit wrong LOL

There is a Mod ive seen previously that does something like that... people discussed previously having your location shown in the profile etc by default but a lot of people were uncomfortable with that idea.

I think it would be nice if it was just by county, that way i keeps a certain anonymity for members who need it

even a county search would be good, i hate it when I see something advertised and my heart does that little jump for joy....only for it to sink when I see its way to far away

if people were worried about anonymity then they could opt out maybe? then those who dont sell wouldnt need to go onto it. It'd be fantastic to have a UK map with all the members locations on, like a google earth almost, with locations tagged. Members could even tag themselves with what they breed.

This is a link to a similar thing on the ebay chat boards

eBay Forums: _ * ...

the designer of the map asks people if they want to be included on it to PM him, with their location, and he adds them. So you arent put on unless you opt in.
