Default Pacific Tree Frog Care

Pacific Tree Frog [Pseudacris regilla] Are A Chorus Frog Found Very Often On The West Coast Of North America. Pacific Tree Frogs Are Also The State Frog Of Washington Where They Are Illegal To Keep.

Before Obtaining A Pacific Tree Frog Consider This Pros/Cons Chart

Pros:
  • Only Eats 4 Crickets Every Second Day.
  • Can Easily Be Kept At Room Temp.
  • Does Not Require UVA/UVB Bulb.
  • Lives In A Non-Humid Part Of The World So A Water Dish And One Spraying Per Day Is Fine
  • Can Adapt To Being Awake During Day
  • Small For Those Short On Space
Cons
  • Jumping When Trying To Move For Cage Cleanup
  • Only Eats Living Food
  • Small For Those Who Like Big Pets
  • Can Be Illegal In Some Areas
  • Hard To Find In Pet Shops Because They Are So Common
  • Starts Off Nocturnal

Housing:
One Or Two Pacific Tree Frogs Can Be Housed In A Five Gallon Tank With A Ventilated Lid. Add Five Gallons For Each Extra Frog. Never House Two Males Together Because They Will Fight. One Male Can Be Kept With More Females Just Watch The Females To Make Sure They Dont Fight [Sexing Will Be Covered Later]. Substrate should Be Coco-Fibre Or Coco-Husk, Depending on personal prefrence. Height Does Not Matter As Much In A Pacific Tree Frog Tank As They Are More Terrestrial Then Aborieal. Place A Few Parasite Free Sticks Leaning Against The Wall For The Frog To Climb On. Six Stick Is Usualy Good. Now These Frogs Like To Perch Up On Rock So Clean A Rock Really Well (Or Buy A Fake One) An Place It In The Opposite End Of The Sticks. Next Place A Water Dish In The Middle Of The Vivarium, Make Sure Its Big Enough For The Frog To Soak In But Only Deep Enough To Go Half Way Up The Frogs Body. Also Make Sure The Walls Are Low To Simulate A Smalle Pool Of Water.

Lifespan/Growth/Sexing:
Pacific Tree Frogs Grow To An Avarage Of 1.25-1.50 Inches, The Males Being Smaller And Thinner. Females Are Bigger And Plump. Another Way To Tell The Sex Of A Pacific Tree Frog Is The Males Have And Big Area Of Dark Brown-Black On There Chin/Neck Area. The Females Dont. This Is The Vocal Sack. Id Go With The Female For Less Noise. Pacific Tree Frogs Live From 4-6 Years.

Feeding:
Crickets Should Be The Staple Of The Diet. Make Sure To Gutload The Crickets First, And Every Second Feeding Dust Them With Calcium Powder, And Dust With Vitamins Once A Month. Woodlice Can Be Givin As A Treat But Only Ones From Feeder Breeders.

Extras:
Mist The Cage Once A Day. Clean Out Water Bowl Once Every Two Days. Wash Sides Of The Tank With Paper Towel Every Two Weeks, Change Substrate Every 2 months. Spot Clean Any Feces [Pooh].
Only Handle When Its Absolutly Necisary. Wash Hands After Handling And Rinse With Hotwater Before Handling.
