Barred Tiger salamander Care
Barred Tiger Salamanders
Scientific name: Ambystoma marvortium
Size: Up to 30cm
Life span: Usually 15 years maybe higher
Where they are from...
They range from Southern Canada to Northern Mexico and the U.S.A
Sexing
Males have longer tails and tend to have a swollen cloaca
Housing
Although they grow quite large they don't need a huge enclosure.
A 10 gallon is ok for one salamander or a 20 gallon for two. Some other care sheets say that a 15 gallon is suitable for two but i believe it is too small for two. They need substrate of pure topsoil or potting soil or coconut husk. They need a place to hide. An Exo terra medium cave would be ok for one salamander whilst two salamanders would be ok in a large exo terra cave. A plant or two would do nicely as well. They need a large water bowl, big enough for a salamander to sit in. If you have two you need a bowl large enough for two salamanders.
What they look like...
