Default Fire bellied newts Qs please..

Hey firstly I would just like to know the chances of getting salmonella from newts?
I used to catch them EVERYDAY for about 4 years with my girlfriend when I was younger, we used to be amazed by them and would spend hours talking about them and watching them in the local swamps.. We NEVER once got salmonella but now I have some fire bellied newts my mums worried i'll pass something onto my baby brother :S
Of course I wash my hands ect..

Also is my set-up correct?

Plastic tank :
1/3 water, gravel floor, fake plants, and a surface rock for them to climb onto
filter

from what i've read as long as you wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling them if you do then you should be fine

erm i think your setup sounds okay lol

may i ask what size the tank is, what filter you are using, and how many fire bellied newts you plan on getting?

(also, make sure the gravel isn't small enough for them to eat!)

The set-up is around 1ft by 1ft, and I have two small fire bellied newts, the gravel is pretty much the same size as there head and the filter is just a small fish tank one but it's doing a good job so far
