That's a good point you've raised - I think we should all be vigilant about this disease, as it would be far too easy to be out and about messing in ponds and such, then coming in and handling our creatures. I'd recommend that if anyone's out in ponds/marshes etc to leave their shoes and clothes near the door and wash thoroughly before changing and coming in contact with their amphibs.

I volunteered at a Toad Patrol last spring and we were issued with disposable gloves when handling the toads, I was as careful as I could be not to get any of my clothes, etc near my cane toads when I got home.

Excellent point raised mate

I thought cane toads were not affected CF. But then you don't want your toads to be carrying it, incase you got other amphibans.

I'm not sure if cane toads are immune - I didn't even think they might be, but I don't want to take any risks. But like you said, I don't want them to carry anything that could be harmful to any future creatures I bring in!

Yeah you were right to be clean and safe as it helps against it spreading. They arn't immune, its just it doesn't harm them, but they do carry it and can spread it. On another forum (fatfrogs) some of the members have treated it quite successfuly. I will try have a wee serach for their posts after work as it may be helpful for people here.

i like to think of my self as a fairly clued up phib keeper but ive never even come across this fungus before. i keep a few good quality books on hand (amphibians in captivity by Marc Staniszewsk, Reptiles and Amphibians for dummies by Patricia Bartlett and popular amphibians (cant remember the author and it isnt that good quality but its a nice easy guide i can lend to people)) and im pretty sure its not mentioned in any of these.

now ive read up on it im suprised it isnt something that isnt mentioned more often.

I guess it depends when the books were written? As I think its only in the past 5 years or so thats its really spread like wild fire. But yeah its a horrible and devastating fungus to the amphibians.
