Yes there is a chance as all Amphibians can harbour the disease. Some carry it without being affected by it such as Bullfrogs and xenopus (sp)?, some species of treefrogs are now known to bask in the sun to elevate there body to such a temperature which will kill the disease, but unfortunately the majority of amphibians have no defence against it and it is fatal.

What makes you think your frogs may have it?, what symptoms are they showing? are they wild caught?

theyve become really lethargic, i noticed one of thems skin was looking really odd when i picked it up on wet tissue and gently rubbed its back its top layer of skin began to come away. they are discoloured. they used to be bright turquoise and green but have gone a mottled grey colour over their legs and slightly on their sides. they tend to spend alot of time on the ground now and in their water bowl even though i spray the tank. where as they used to always be hidden in the plants until night fall being noctural. one of them was having trouble climbing too but i thought that may have been down to sloughing.

there seem to be alot of signs pointing to the disease which worries me alot. as far as im aware they are cb whether the shop where i bought them was lying or not i dont know. but they are normally pretty good.

i have done everything as i should have to my knowledge and they had been doing fine growing and very healthy. theyre still fat and healthy in that manner but have lost their colour and activeness

I'm sorry to hear your frogs are unwell - I haven't kept frogs before so I don't know much about what they can catch. My only experience is with toads, and last summer I bought two Southern Toads which looked very healthy when I got them, but within a month they had both died. I took one of them to the vet's and he said it was metabolic bone disease, and their bones were more or less crumbling inside them from lack of calcium in their diet. I thought this was my fault but others on this site had said that it can take months for MBD to come on so they had probably been fed poorly by whoever had them before.

They did become very lethargic but only shed as much as toads normally do...however they also showed symptoms of red leg. They weren't interested in eating and eventually both just died.

One of my canes, Ron, is painfully skinny and I haven't seen him eat in over a month, but I can't tempt him with food. Hermione is big as a house so I don't think it's disease.

If yours are still eating then that is a good sign - however I'm afraid that aside from suggesting MBD I can't be of any help...sorry.

Some of the things you describe certainly do some like symptoms of the disease. Have you contacted the shop? any other amphibians they sell could also be infected and also any phibs they place in the enclosure they kept them in as the disease lingers for quite along time.

I did read a while ago about some kind of gel (cant remember the name) that has been successful in treating Chytrid which is commonly available over the counter, you may be able to find it by looking on the net, of course you could also contact your vet although im not sure how much help they will be.

If you have any other phibs id advise you not to even keep them in the same room.

i bought them quite a while back and im no longer in contact with the shop. i had the only two that there were at the time and when i went next the enclosure had been cleaned and if any others had it the problem is that they dont keep records of people they sell to, or when i bought mine they werent. so i will contact them but i dont think it will do alot of good tbh.
no they are the only two amphibians i have. and thanks for the advise ill have a look now. as you said i dont think phoning the vets will do much good.
