I'm sorry to hear your frogs are unwell - I haven't kept frogs before so I don't know much about what they can catch. My only experience is with toads, and last summer I bought two Southern Toads which looked very healthy when I got them, but within a month they had both died. I took one of them to the vet's and he said it was metabolic bone disease, and their bones were more or less crumbling inside them from lack of calcium in their diet. I thought this was my fault but others on this site had said that it can take months for MBD to come on so they had probably been fed poorly by whoever had them before.
They did become very lethargic but only shed as much as toads normally do...however they also showed symptoms of red leg. They weren't interested in eating and eventually both just died. One of my canes, Ron, is painfully skinny and I haven't seen him eat in over a month, but I can't tempt him with food. Hermione is big as a house so I don't think it's disease. If yours are still eating then that is a good sign - however I'm afraid that aside from suggesting MBD I can't be of any help...sorry.

Some of the things you describe certainly do some like symptoms of the disease. Have you contacted the shop? any other amphibians they sell could also be infected and also any phibs they place in the enclosure they kept them in as the disease lingers for quite along time.
I did read a while ago about some kind of gel (cant remember the name) that has been successful in treating Chytrid which is commonly available over the counter, you may be able to find it by looking on the net, of course you could also contact your vet although im not sure how much help they will be. If you have any other phibs id advise you not to even keep them in the same room. |
