Default New dartfrog viv and 1 problem :(

I've just set up this viv for my 2 D.azureus, what does everyone think ?

Here are the two frogs, but if you look the first one is very thin. He hasnt been eating for the past couple of days and i dont know why. The 2nd one, as you can see is fat and still eats like a hog. Could she be bullying the smaller one?

They have been in quite a small viv while I got this one ready (new one is 36x15x18 ). Ive had them since the barking show 5th july and even though The first one was always thinner he always was first to the food and ate really well and had a nice full belly, now it looks really shrunken

Hi, it could be due to the size of the viv. a 3ft viv is quiet big for 2 little frogs and its possible that hes not catching enough food.
I would be possible with bullying if they were in smaller viv but since this is so big there are plenty of places to hide/ get away from the other frog if necessary so i dont really see that as the problem.

Are you just putting food straight in or have you been offering it in front of him?

You could try just putting whole pot of flies in with few small holes cut in (not big enough for frogs to get in but large enough for flies and maggots to get out) theyll pick off the flies and maggots and always know where the supply of food is if they are hungry.

Hope this helps

Great looking set up there mate. I recently had the same problem as you with a very skinny azureus, which unfortunatley didn't make it. I suggest you perhaps sperate them and put the skinny one into a smaller tank just now. Also what type of flies are you feeding him? I ask because at first one of my tinc's was feeding (or so I thought) as I saw him strike at hydei and catch them, but he wasnt eating them. They went in his mouth and then spat them out. So I tried melanogaster and he ate them all up.

what you could try doing is making a removable partition around the contours of the layout.
When it comes to feeding them, seperate them to either side of the tank, pop the partition in and drop their food in. That way they have a chance of getting fed equally.

Thank you all for the kind comments about the viv, only took my 2 hours to put together .
Just to clear up a few things, the problem started while the frogs were in a very small viv, about 18x12" . I have tried both types of fruit fly and also micro crickets, springtails and dwarf white woodlice. Until now he was very greedy and was usually first to the food and would even start eating while my hand was still in the tank.
I have him alone in the bigger viv now with lots of food and he seems to be chasing things but I havent seen him eat yet, he is very weak and Im sure if he doesnt eat by tomorrow I will lose him.

I'd personally have him in a very small palpen relatively plain with the sides covered and not too many places for flies to hide. Offer him smaller amounts of food (incase they're stressing him) directly infront of him, a number of times each day.

Good luck with him.
