Default temp problem?

Hi i have recently set up a small exo terra 12x12x18 high.
I have a compact light on it and have put a piece of glass over the one piece of mesh, BUT i am struggiling to keep the temp correct it seems to want to stay around 77-85f.

Does anyone now of anything that i can do to keep the temp correct for darts?

It will be housing D.Intermidius i have read that they can live between 25-27degrees c but i do not want to expose them to temps above 80f as i have heard that this leads to unhealthy frogs.

I understand part of the problem is the viv being small but people use 12x12x12 vivs and manage to keep lights on them and the temp correct.

Hope you can help.

Thanks again

Hi, I have some of my darts in exos. The size is not a problem. I have the mesh covering both mesh sections, including the light. As i think the majority of the heat is escaping through the section you have uncovered.
If worried about the uv then dont be as none of mine have uv lights. (im ust assuming you have uv thats why that sections not covered) in the wild the suns rays wouldnt penetrate through the canopy layer and reach the darts on the floor so its kinda errelivant to have it in my opinion. This should increase the temps and also raise hunidity for them.
I wouldnt also worry too much about the temps. I dont have any of my darts on heatmats, they stay at room temp which is usually 23-27 or during the summer (when we had it) it was 29deg in my frogroom. Even at night they are not heated and just drop to whatever the house temp is at the time.
It hasnt done mine any detriment as they are all, happy and healthy...and wouldnt be breeding if it wasnt the right conditions for them

Point taken.

But my house does tend to get cold during the winter so some backup heating system is useful to take over when the room temp drops. This isn't too much of a problem for the mossies. But I would be concerned for PDF.

I spose if I re-read the original post I should have asked TOO HOT or too Cold?? My prob is temps tend to the lower edge of tolerance so it's easier to handle.

Hi everyone thanks. Well i was worried that the temps were going to be too high as they are at around 78f today. I am just worried if we do have a hot day the temp may be too much for them what do you think?

The viv is going to house d.intermedius, i have read that 24-27 is ideal temp for them is this true if so my temp range will be ok wont it?

I just dont want this little viv to get too hot. The average room temp is around 70f never really goes cold in there its just if a warm day arives the temp will rise.

Peltier device. Pass an electric current through a metal plate and it gets hot, right. Not with one of these things.

Peltier Greenweld @ Permex Ltd

lol looks abit of a big step for just a small viv.
How do these work and what do you need for them to work?

Any other ideas would be great too.

Ummmmm.

Would need a thermostat and an electrician. Bear in mind that one side gets hot the other cold (I think)

ye sounds a bit too much hassel to be honest and could be dangerous lol.

I appreciate that though something to bear in mind for the future.

I may have to remove the glass see if the huimiditiy stays up while allowing some of the hot air out faster.
