Default Sphagnum moss

Someone resently told me to use this moss for frogs, but when i posted on here that i was going to use it i got a reply that it is a bad idea but they never said why. Can anyone else shed any light on this? I collect my frogs tomorrow and don`t want to put them at risk.

Hi ya tinks Sphagnum moss can cause impaction this is what kill's frogs.
I belive impaction is sort of like being constipated but for frogs and so on.
As when a frog has eaten the moss by mistake the frog can not pass it or regurgitate it so the frog will die.

Depending on the frogs and yours setup you can plant sphagnum, once it starts growing its safe and looks good as well, it needs boggy conditions and lots of light.

It is fair to say that it could cause impaction...but on the other hand I have it in all of my frog vivs, from my thumbnails to my tincs and have never had an issue with it.
IMO viv making is getting to be bit like health and safety fuss of humans at the mo. In the wild they will come across all sorts of problems with their enviroment...small stones...big stones...etc etc but they still live there. Its like the ecoearth, there are still large pieces in that that could cause impaction too if you frog was to swallow it and yet nothing is said about this danger and is widely used in frog vivs.
If you want ur frogs to be free from all dangers then ud just put them in a viv with a paper towel but of course that not gonna be ok for your frogs in the longrun.
Im all for the saftey of my frogs but I dont want them 'mollycoddled' either so id say it was entirely ur choice.
Just wanted to let u know that I use it and have no adverse effects (so far) and it has been in the vivs for few years now

I think the same thing, but its best just to err on the side caution in terms of everyone jumping on you about "not worth the risk" "we can eliminate problems.." etc
